THE TEAM of the Journey Into Self Discovery Program are delighted that the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, has called for this special year for priests. In the beginning of this commemorative year, he said that recently priests had been through some challengeing times, and that during this ‘YEAR FOR PRIESTS’ HE WOULD LIKE TO FOCUS ON THE spiritual development and the human growth of the priests who serve god’s church so faithfully. He would like to share the JOY OF THE PRIESTHOOD, in service of JESUS CHRIST AND ‘His church’.

We at the JOURNEY INTO SELF DISCOVERY PROGRAM are inspired by the holy Father’s words. They remind us of our own ongoing commitment to help men in Ministry to focus on their Spiritual development and Human Growth.

A Prayer of Listening with the Heart
Spirituality, Wellness, Psychotherapy

IT IS WHEN WE ETERNALIZE the experience of the Gospel encounters that we are able to feel them as a living experience. A concrete experience that causes us to say with the disciples “Did not our hearts burn within us as he spoke to us on the road and explained the scriptures to us.” As they were transformed and were moved to return immediately to Jerusalem so too we are transformed and are moved back to the Jerusalem in our hearts when we heard the call to ministry. Meditative psychotherapy has the energy to transform and heal us from the rift within ourselves. When we speak about gentle psychotherapy we are speaking about the meditative psychotherapy in the tradition of the medieval traditions of the power of Scripture and of faith. “Nothing is impossible with God.”

As disciples of THE RISEN JESUS, We are ALIVE AND HEADING BACK INTO A RENEWED RELATIONSHIP WITH THE LORD.

In this company of one another we are astounded and amazed and full of hope for the future.

“THE RESURRECTION CAN ONLY BE RECEIVED AND AFFIRMED AND BE CELEBRATED AS THE NEW ACTION OF GOD, WHOSE PROVINCE IS TO CREATE NEW FUTURES TO THE PEOPLE AND LET THEM AMAZED IN THE MIDST OF DESPAIR” (Walter Brueggemann, The prophetic Imagination, Fortress Press)

It is With the help of Scripture prayer, the Eucharist, sharing our experiences ,telling our stories, that we begin the process. Realizing the meaning of our dreams, learning how to refresh, risking discernment, and accepting the assistance of a gentle focus in a living community of understanding.

We experience renewal, a healing rest and rejuvenation of the body mind and spirit truly in fraternal company of Men In Ministry.

The Journey into self Discovery for Men In Ministry offers an unique opportunity of immersion and transformation in the Resurrection.

It is often when we are fleeing our fears that we meet who it is who has been travelling with us and with joy we turn around and hasten back to where we came from.

Psychotherapy is a focused compassionate process that encourages us to discover the life we have within us.

YOU WILL DO THE WORKS JESUS DOES
Truly, truly, I tell you,
The one who trusts me will also do the works that I do,
in fact, will do greater works than these

This is what Jesus is leading up to:
his disciples will continue his mission and his works.
But what is this mission?
It is to give life, eternal life,
and to reveal the face and heart of God to people.
It is to be a presence of God in the world
where there is an absence of God.
:: Jean Vanier–Drawn into the Mystery of Jesus through the Gospel of John, Novalis

Former participant remarks:

“I was out of touch with myself despite what others would call and do call, wonderful achievements for the parish and the wider church. In a very gentle, professional and safe way I have come to see (through this retreat) how much my behavior has been addictive and defensive and terribly out of touch with the call of Christ. Jesus invites our hidden self to awaken and to grow strong.” : A priest & bioethicist.

“Thank you for this retreat/workshop On The Road To Emmaus. I am now have the courage to continue in my vocation as a priests. You gave me hope again.”

AN
INTERNATIONAL
PLACE
FOR
PASTORAL
DIALOGUE

WE ARE CELEBRATING 25 consecutive years of
our ministry to priests and men in ministry.

Twenty five years ago a client who was a priest asked me if I had every considered offering a special service to priests and men in ministry.

He said there was an enormous need for a place where men in ministry could come and feel a separate safe and confidential, compassionate place to speak about the difficulties of being a priest and human being. A place where he need not be afraid that what he said would jeopardize his position with his superiors and or with the church. He was aware that the church offered treatment centers but he felt that there was a need for a more objective, compassionate and discerning place of understanding. Church organizations served the church not necessarily the individual who might be in trouble. [The above quote is not necessarily our opinion of Church treatment Centres]

It was out of this meeting that we have developed A JOURNEY INTO SELF DISCOVERY FOR MEN IN MINISTRY, a place where we serve you with confidentiality, compassion and understanding. We have deep love for the church and we are happy to be within her fold an her love for us, we also know that individuals priests who work for the church need a place where they can speak from their hearts about themselves in confidence.

In the past twenty five years we have had men in ministry come to the Journey Into Self Discovery Program from all over the world. We have also gone to places outside of Canada to meet them. They have come from places as far away as Australia, India, New Zealand, Africa, South America, United States and Canada. We have gone to South Africa, Australia, India, United States, Jamaica and many places in Canada. We have been very happy to do this work and the wonderful connection we have had with some men in ministry. We are pleased that we have had twenty five years to serve you. We look forward to many more years. :: Daniel McDonald</p>

A GENERAL DESCRIPTION

THE FIVE DAY PROGRAMS OFFERED FOR
JOURNEY INTO SELF DISCOVERY
for Men n Ministry

The Journey Into Self Discovery for Professionals are scripture themed programs.

We recommend that if you are on a Sabbatical Program that you include this experience as part of Your Sabbatical Program. It is an excellent way to begin or complete your individual Sabbatical program.

THE JOURNEY PROGRAM is designed as an opening for anyone seeking to discover a deeper meaning and perspective in their life. It is a gathering place for like minded people who are interested in renewal, exploration and refreshment of body, mind and spirit. Sometimes the unusual such as a dream interpretation, a propreceptive writing experience, painting a picture and other like activities can furnish us with new insight and approaches to move forward on a new path.

Psychotherapy and emotional bodywork together with carefully choosen scripture themes can bring about powerful dymanics of grace to help us shape new roads to travel. God generously supplies us many alternatives in our lives to assist us. Everywhere we look there are new discoveries to be made. We usually celebrate liturgical worship each day.

The Journey program is a five day residential opportunity to encourage spirituality and a cooperative community living experience. It is essential that participants enter in a spirit of openness and candour so they can share and, as much as possible, reveal; their deep inner self and personal life experience with the group. We suggest that you consider this a closed retreat. There are no lectures during this retreat. This is an experiential and an interactive process retreat with a gentle invitation to share and explore feelings, dreams. Spiritual exercises are offered each day to assist us to carry Hope, Confidence, Self Awarness and Self esteem in our hearts and spirit. Absolute confidentiality is expected.

There is a physical component to the program. Each day a guided group program of simple exercises is offered along with some music to assist movement. Each participant is offered a one hour massage as part of the program.
